25 June 2018
On 25 June 2018, the Brussels Privacy Hub will be hosting an exclusive opening keynote event for the 3rd edition of the European Data Protection Law Summer School (held this year from 25 to 29 June 2018) at the Permanent Representation of Belgium to the European union, Rue de la Loi, 61-63, 1000 Brussels. The keynote given by Paul Nemitz, Principal Advisor to the Director General for Justice and Consumers of the European Commission, will focus on “Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain and Data Protection Law” and will be followed by a cocktail reception.
Artificial intelligence seems to come closer and closer to human intelligence, enabling developments such as self-driving cars or nursing robots. Similarly, the blockchain promises to revolutionise administrative processes, financing and the legal profession. Its ability to permanently record facts in a decentralised ledger could pave the way for smart contracts and smart records in areas ranging from logistics to land registries.
In this keynote event, Paul Nemitz, who was the Director leading the work on the GDPR in the Commission, will analyse how data protection rules will apply to artificial intelligence and the blockchain and thus impact both its development and deployment, and how, conversely, these new technologies impact on the interpretation and application of the GDPR.
The programme is now available.
Time: 18.00 – 19.00, followed by a cocktail reception
Venue: Permanent Representation of Belgium to the European union, Rue de la Loi, 61-63, 1000 Brussels
Registration: The event is free to attend, but due to limited capacity, registration is required.
Participants of the 3rd European Data Protection Law Summer School are automatically pre-registered.
